Steinbach, Oberzaucher and Grammer replicated the testosterone rise in 2012, which tells me the first result was no fluke.

Not every study lines up: a 2017 synthetic copulin study of 243 people found no change in mate choice from two synthetic single compounds rather than the full natural secretion, and a lab dose is not the same as a scent worn on skin near another person.

On a date, read the effect as attention. It will not turn a stranger into a fan, but it can make him put his phone away and actually look at you.

Wen Zhou’s team at the Chinese Academy of Sciences added another piece. At low concentrations, estratetraenol made straight men more likely to read gender-neutral figures as female, and it lifted mood depending on the context.

In plain language, his guard drops and he reads you as friendlier. Looks get his eyes. Warmth gives him a reason to walk over and say something.

Why androstenol rounds out a female blend
